Services. 

The Library offers free Internet access from six public access computers with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, free Wi-Fi, copying and faxing, as well as notary and exam proctoring services.  The Sherman Public Library carries the State Journal Register, Consumer Reports, and the Sherman Sun Times.  A coffee station is available for patrons. Free magazine and paperback book exchange stations are located in the building.

Scanning and sending email on the copy machine is always free!

The Library has a donation collection area, and accepts Box Tops for Education, 8 oz or larger containers with lids for the St. John's Breadline, soda tabs for Ronald McDonald House.  We recycle used printer cartridges and collect glasses for the Lion's Club.  Patrons have access to print and electronic resources through Illinois Heartland Library System-SHARE, audio and visual resources, and much more! 

Video Games & Movies

The library purchases up-to-date movies in Dvd and Blu-ray formats.  New movies have a two-day checkout period.  
​Video Games are available for patrons to checkout.  We circulate games for Nintendo Switch, Wii, Wii U, and Nintendo DS, PlayStation 4, and XBox 360 and XBox One.

We circulate board games and outdoor games! Check out S.T.E.M. games like the Fisher-Price Code-a-Pillar, Squishy Circuits, Snap Circuits.
Or look for outdoor games like horseshoes, croquet, bocce ball, or giant Jenga.

Playaway Launchpads​

Playaway Launchpads are pre-loaded with content for kids, teens, and adults, designed with a simple, easy-to-use interface, and 100% secure, Launchpad tablets are made to be passed from one set of hands to the next.  No download time. No need for Wi-Fi. 

Wi Fi Hotspot Technology

If you need wireless connectivity on the go, the Sherman Public Library has mobile hotspots available for checkout. The hotspot can be used to connect to Wi-Fi on the Sprint Network, and can connect up to 10 devices at once, both indoors and outside, with unlimited data.  Mobile Hotspot Policy 

Audiobooks and Playaways

​The Library carries over 1,000 ​audiobooks on cd and a sizable collection of pre-loaded audio Playaways.

Playaways give patrons the portability and freedom to listen to audiobooks anytime, anywhere without connecting to Wi-Fi.​​

Friends of the Sherman Library


The Friends of Sherman Library meet quarterly on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. before the Sherman Library Book Club Meeting.  The Friends of the Library sponsor the annual Fall Book Sale, maintain flower pots in the summer, and sponsor various programs and events throughout the year.  If you are interested in joining the Friends Group, call the Library at 217-496-2496 for more details.

The Friends of the Library sponsor the Sherman Library Book Club which meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM at the Library.

Members take turns choosing the "Book of the Month" and leading the discussion.  Refreshments follow the theme of the book.   While this is sometimes a challenge, the results are always delicious.
